- Choose the Right Box: You can select a sturdy, double-walled box slightly larger than the artwork for ample cushioning.
- Reinforce Corners: Use cardboard corner protectors to reinforce the corners of the frame, as these are the most vulnerable areas during transport. You can collect corners from Frame Warehouse.
- Prep Glass: You may choose to use tape, such as painter’s tape, to make an X shape across the glass. While this will not prevent glass from breaking, it may hold it more securely if it does break and cause less damage to the paper art inside the frame. Acrylic or plexiglass is preferred for artwork that is travelling.
- Wrap in Bubble Wrap: Wrap the entire framed artwork, including the frame and glass, in multiple layers of bubble wrap, ensuring the bubbles face away from the artwork’s surface.
- Secure with Tape: Strong packing tape can secure the bubble wrap and other wrapping materials.
2. Packing and Cushioning:
- Place in the Box: Please carefully place the wrapped artwork inside the box, ensuring it is centred and does not touch the sides.
- Be aware of the hardware: Make sure the screws and other hardware from one frame are not touching another artwork. If more than one item is packaged, it must be stored front to front or back to back.
- Fill Gaps: Use packing or crumpled paper to fill any empty space in the box, preventing the artwork from shifting during transport.
